Shiatsu literally means finger pressure and as such describes part of the therapy whereby natural body weight (finger, thumbs, elbows, forearms, feet and knees) are used in applying pressure to special points on the body.
This is combined with stretches, joint rotations and joint manipulation to give an all-over treatment, which aims at treating the patient on a holistic level.

History of Shiatsu
Recognition of Shiatsu in Japan was brought about as a type of healing practice over 70 years ago. It is a combination of many traditional therapies founded in the Eastern world. Its is based on the subjective part of sickness – the patient. It is important to note that the effectiveness of any treatment depends on both the practitioner and the method working together. So the effectiveness of any treatment can vary greatly from one practitioner to another. In our eagerness as a society we have become objective scientifically, we have become insensitive to the subjective part of any sickness – That will be YOU. In order to find the most effective treatment for a patient, the practitioner should be receptive to many different types of therapy always keeping the patient in mind.
